Steve Krug’s “Don’t Make Me Think” is a self-explanatory heuristic emphasizing the importance of creating self-explanatory interfaces.

The beauty of Krug's book itself is that, unlike many UX books, it's as "usable" (easy, simple, fun) as the design principles it espouses. I read the first edition a billion years ago, and continue to recommend it to designers today.
