The 29th of December 2024 was a shock to all, regardless of whether you’re interested in aviation or not.
Jeju Air Flight 2216.

A passenger plane, one that you or I could’ve taken, tried to land with its landing gear (the “wheels” of the plane) still up, overran the runway, hit a concrete barrier, and exploded. 179 of the 181 people were killed.
An official investigation is underway. The real reason the plane attempted a belly landing or why it was unsuccessful — although belly landings are considered incidents, they can be and were successfully performed in the past without people being harmed in the process — is, for now, unknown. Why the gear wasn’t down is also unknown.
