7 ways to get creative with your camera

Creativity is a skill anyone can learn. But sometimes we need a little push. My career is in graphic design so I get paid to be “creative” on-demand and come up with ideas. At times it can be exhausting, this is why I always come back to photography. It’s a creative outlet with endless possibilities.

If you need a little inspiration or just want to engage in a fun creative experiment, get your camera (or smartphone, most of these photos were shot with an iPhone) and follow along with these 7 exercises.

1. Capturing Detail Shots

No matter what genre of photography you’re interested in detail shots is key. Details help capture a story and give the viewer a sense of place. What unique details in your life can you photograph to tell a story?
