Are you solving the right problem?
And more importantly: what is the user problem behind that?

Sharing one thought that stood out as I was reading HBR’s article about problem-solving at large organizations:

“However, when the problem is presented to building managers, they suggest a much more elegant solution: Put up mirrors next to the elevator.
This simple measure has proved wonderfully effective in reducing complaints, because people tend to lose track of time when given something utterly fascinating to look at — namely, themselves.”

This is just exactly what we do as UX Designers.
Sometimes our team is stuck in trying to solve an interaction/technical problem (“oh my god, how are we going to make this carousel work on tablets?”), and then we come in and ask the million dollar question:
What is the *user* problem we are trying to solve for?
The discussions that come after that question can be enlightening.
