For instance, two of his heuristic principles could conceivably contradict each other — #6: provide all the information a user needs to make a decision and #8: eliminate anything unnecessary.
I think they have got mixed up, 6 being eliminate the unnecessary and 8 being provide the user with all information

If you don’t know what the user needs are, you won’t build the right thing.

I think that this must be a rule for everyone. From the designer to the stakeholders.
