I've been intrigued by arguments that emojis function as language, and -- as an English teacher -- find those arguments to be convincing. As with any language, however, words or images can be overused.

I was reading this to see how others might react to your lack of emojis. I’ve found a lack of emojis makes people uncomfortable. No emoji. What does he mean. Strange times, and the emphasis on how politically correct emojis have to be is testament to that.

Emojis are definitely interesting from a language point of view, and I tend to think of the saying "a picture is worth 1000 words" when I see how much of online discourse uses not just emojis, but also gifs, videos, and images. It's fascinating how…
