Sometimes your workplace can feel like a 16th-century Shakespearean tragedy where the UX Designers would be the town’s Soothsayer, warning Caesar to beware the ‘Ides of the MVP release’, no?

From the beginning of Act 1, we’d be standing atop a podium in the town square waving the current state journey map back and forth, hoping to catch the attention of the Product Centurion and their platoon of Developer soldiers as they march bravely into Sprint Planning. We’d be keen on criticizing, while shouting,

“Woe to the Minimum loVed Product dost forsaken thy needs of thy userrrrrrs!!!”

… only to be ignored or completely blown off. Yet despite this, our fellow UX’ers give us a pat on the back for the effort and we all carry on and can say we tried. But why is that? How do UX Designers find themselves in this kind of position anyway?

Reason: We think passion and following an oversimplified checklist of to-dos is enough.

I can’t help but remember this specific video I watched early in my career that excited me. It was just so simple, straightforward…
