The first question out of everyone’s mouth when we meet:

Q: What do you do for work?

A: I’m an Experience Designer.

Q: WTF is an Experience Designer?!

A: Ummm, let me try to explain.

In one sentence

Our job as Experience Designers is to make technology easy to use.

Okay, tell me more

Technology is embedded in our lives. For many people, they’re literally connected from the time they wake up til the time they go to bed.

And it’s easy to understand why. Technology enables people to do things they may never be able to do otherwise.

Unfortunately using technology can be difficult and frustrating, especially if it’s a new technology.

Our ultimate goal is to make using technology not only usable but also fun and enjoyable.

Hi Joe — with all due respect, you lost me right here. What you’ve just described here is what I call Usability, or usability engineering. Experiences are usually comprised of many more factors like effectiveness, satisfaction(visual, story…

While doing something at such a low fidelity often sounds counter intuitive, sketching and whiteboarding often leads to the most creative solutions because it makes us focus on solving ...

Thanks for writing this article. I’ve been designing website experiences for almost a year now and while I provide a mix between wireframes and high-fidelity mockups, I’m trying to take it a step further and provide prototypes for our clients.
